We rate the Sunday roast as one of the best we have enjoyed in the Tunbridge Wells region. Clean and well kept dining area. Generous portions and fresh ingredients. We’ll be back!

The pub was very empty so no real buzz. The menu was pretty good and we saw the steaks had a free bottle of wine with it so we ordered the food .We didn’t have any cutlery on the table until the starter came up. Most other tables were not clean and some still had glasses on them. Starters came up and they were hot and were pretty good ok . We had our wine plonked on the table . We asked for a bottle of carbonated water and we were advised they had none . Then asked for a soda water which was then plonked on the table spilling some water. Then the filet steaks came . The waitress advised the chef said they might be undercooked and to let her know. The first mouthful was chewy but then we saw they were raw and not medium rare so we sent them back . They came back had another couple of pieces which were chewy but then we saw it was still raw. Filet steak is supposed to be melting in the mouth not chewy and you could forgive under cooking once but twice ? The steaks seemed to have been defrosted in the microwave which gave the very chewy texture and possibly still not fully defrosted when they were being cooked annd definitely not rested , blood on the plate. Unfortunately we couldn’t it eat it . Plates were taken away and then a few minutes later the manager / owner came over and said they tasted it and it was fine but he understood people have different tastes , didn’t agree with that as filet steak should melt in the mouth and not have to be chewed for minutes with each bite. But to his credit we weren’t charged for the steaks and overall they handled it reasonably well. We always like going to pubs / restaurants that are local and not a chain in order to support local businesses but unfortunately we would not return to this pub . We may have been unlucky and this was a one off.

We eat regularly at the Hawk and Berry and have never been disappointed. Best Sunday lunch in the South-East. Had lunch on Saturday and that was excellent too. I hesitate in putting too good a review as I will be so upset if I can’t get a table! Five star food.

Food was excellent and good value . Not sure the Hawkenbury can work out if a pub or a restaurant, think when it has done that could be really great

Delicious Sunday Roast . Freshly cooked ingredients not re cooked especially the roast potatoes which usually are. Friendly service. Not ridiculously expensive and nice ambiance. Throughly recommend.

We have eaten at the Hawk and Berry several times and the food has always been exceptional. The menu changes regularly and has a good range of restaurant dishes and more traditional pub food. We had the parmigiana and a burger both were delicious.
