About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
  • Neighborhood gem
The Hawthorn is a Georgian gem in the heart of Haworth, packed full of period features offering a relaxed environment to unwind with friends and family. This warm and appealing gastropub has been renovated throughout to showcase an array of local antiques including a stunning array of Barraclough clocks, homage to John Barraclough himself, Clockmaker to the Brontes, who used to live in this very building in the Georgian era.

We serve only food made using the freshest seasonal British produce and our menu changes through the weeks to reflect this.

We have a custom-made Josper charcoal grill which is the hottest indoor grill available and used by the best restaurants in the country. Cooking on the Josper ensures none of the natural moisture or flavour escapes from the food, whilst at the same time adding the distinct chargrilled taste.

We have been coming here on holiday for the past two years and always had our Sunday lunch at the Hawthorn. This has been due to the high quality of the Sunday lunch, always cooked to perfection. In particular we have loved the roast potatoes - small and crispy, absolutely perfect. Most pubs don’t do this, they serve up giant so called roast potatoes which are hard and tasteless. Imagine our shock when a dish of Aunt Bessie style travesties were served up to us- 4 boulders in total. And yes, as expected they were hard and tasteless. Why on earth have you done this? If it was to save money it backfired as we had a refund on the potatoes and we won’t be coming back again. It’s the small things that make the difference to a meal. In addition, the service wasn’t great with one person not knowing what a Sauvignon Blanc was and serving us both the same size glass when we had asked for one small and one medium. We’ll try somewhere else next time.

We had a lovely meal here and were made to feel very welcome. The flat iron steak itself was a little on the bland side, but the peppercorn sauce absolutely transformed it — rich, punchy, and full of flavour. The burger was excellent, with beautifully tender meat and cheese that was nothing short of divine. A lovely touch was the complimentary glass of Prosecco for the birthday boy — much appreciated and helped make the occasion feel that bit more special. Our dog was also well looked after, with a comfy bed provided and a bowl of treats to keep him happy. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable experience. We’ll definitely be back.

Fantastic experience. Food was amazing. Flat iron steak is a must. Will definitely be back. It was our anniversary and we got a card and glass of prosecco from the restaurant.
