Open Tuesday to Sunday with food served all day from noon.
We now have 3 Giant heated Tipis, they provide lots of fresh air and a lovely open environment, they are also heated.

Formerly an 18th Century farmhouse boasting exposed beams, oak floors, exposed brickwork and oak tables. This leads to a very relaxed and cosy atmosphere with candle lit tables and real flame stoves.

The cuisine is typically modern European, classically cooked using cornerstones such as stock pots to create their sauces with a brigade that has a passion for what they do.

This is exciting times for the pub which now has a new bar serving real ale straight from the cask. Be sure to check out the website regularly to keep up with the latest events and offers.

Pub was freezing and draughty, even the staff looked cold. We were told we could sit anywhere we thought was warmer than our original table. It was cold everywhere, I’d been out walking so had two pairs of trousers on and multiple layers, I was still cold. It wasn’t busy but some of the tables were not cleared. The welcome was non-existent. One lady staff member was so moody we thought it might be a gimmick because of the pub name. She was abrupt and unfriendly and when she came to clean our table she swept crumbs over both my and my wife’s laps, we very nearly intervened. She then went behind the bar and slagged off the management to her colleague, we heard the whole thing. Once our food eventually arrived we were left to our own devices for the rest of the meal, even having to go to the bar to ask how to pay. Incidentally it was my wife’s birthday, we mentioned this when booking as it asks what the occasion is. Not that it made a blind bit of difference. What should have been a treat was a very unpleasant experience. We’ve been meaning to book at the Moody Mare for sometime, we won’t be going back. The audacity to add service automatically to the bill was a step too far, we paid the tip which was undeserved.

Reading the other reviews I had high hopes for a good experience but was sadly disappointed. We arrived for our 26 wedding anniversary just after they opened on a very cold day. The place was freezing. Staff assured us it would warm up but in the two hours we spent there it actually felt colder. The staff were nice and attentive. The starters were good. (Tomato soup and pate), but my pork loin was terrible. It was overcooked and rubbery, and the whole dish was covered in a garlic oil that was not pleasant and made the whole dish taste the same. I might give it another go if passing on a summers day as there’s lots of outside spaces, but not putting the heating on before you customers arrive on a cold winters day is unforgivable. To the management, you need to warm the place up before customers arrive. Even the staff has to go and put their coats on!

The Moody Mare was freezing cold, the heating had not been on long before we arrived and was totally inadequate to raise the temperature in such a large building. The outside temperature was 2C so heating should not have been off. Credit to the staff who were in an impossible situation and continued trying to take food orders with good humour and politeness. Customers wore their outdoor coats and we were shaking with the cold. there was nobody senior available to escalate to. I our opinion, the Moody Mare should not have been open for business in those conditions. We decided to find somewhere else to enjoy our lunch. It would have been a nice touch to have been given our drinks for free! Very disappointed!

Had the Sunday roast. Best roast potatoes I’ve had eating out and a very good portion and selection of veg. Plenty of meat as well. Have eaten here a good few times and never been let down.
