About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Great for brunch
  • Good for business meals
Located within Denver’s historic Tramway Building, originally opened in 1911, The Nickel pays homage to the space that was once used to collect fare from customers riding its resident streetcars: a nickel. Just as the building in which The Nickel is housed has a storied past, the dishes found on the menu at The Nickel all have a story. We proudly serve menus that incorporate the highest quality ingredients from farmers, ranchers, distillers and craft producers, and is comprised of dishes that are easily recognizable and feel simple, but eat complex.

Sadly, the brunch menu is extremely limited, especially if you are not interested in breakfast food. And, the food was lukewarm and sub par. In particular, I ordered the kale caesar and the lettuce was wilted to the point I didn't eat any of it. We also ordered a burger that was very fatty and left my daughter and I both not feeling super great that evening or the next day. I wanted to love this place as it's so convenient to the theater and so cute!

I really wanted to love this place...but, sadly not. Food timing was bad. I guess they are interested in turning tables than providing a good experience. We were not even halfway thru our salad when our entrees showed up. The server said they could take my dish back to 'keep it warm'....really? It is fish....not sure if I would prefer dried out fish or cold fish. Neither is good. We felt very rushed and had to constantly ask for water refills (very small glasses). We also overheard that they were out of a couple of things; which being a Saturday night at 6:00 is not a good thing. The food, overall, was OK...nothing exciting. The space is lovely. They have a VERY small wine list. If in the area, we might stop in for a cocktail, but probably not much more than that.

Lovely brunch! The food was good, our server was personable. The only comment is that we had to change tables because the music was too loud.

The issue we had was that the hamburgers were overcooked: well instead of medium , no pink at all. The condiments were very good. At breakfast the bacon was quite good again, but the eggs were overcooked. Neither Scrambled eggs nor omelets should have brown edges or surfaces. Other than that the service was very good. They are trying. Easy fixes are available.

Hi Frank, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the service and some of the food, and we appreciate your honest feedback about the burgers and eggs. You're absolutely right — those are details we can and will improve. We’re always striving to get better, and your comments help us do that. We hope to have the chance to serve you again soon, with everything just right. Best, The Nickel Team

Beautiful dining room, great brunch menu and portion size. However, the service was absolutely unacceptable. The dining room was not busy at all, yet both servers spent most of their time hiding around the corner out of sight. The service was inattentive at best.
The NickelResponded on May 5, 2025
Thanks for visiting us, David. We're happy to hear that you enjoyed our brunch menu. However, we're truly sorry to hear about your experience with the service. We pride ourselves on providing attentive and friendly service to all our guests, and it seems we fell short during your visit. We appreciate your feedback and will use it to improve. We hope you'll give us another chance to provide you with the quality service you deserve. Best regards, The Nickel Team
