About this restaurant

The Palace Steakhouse is a small, BYOB restaurant with a Venezuelan influence. The quaint and cozy dining area gives diners an intimate atmosphere to enjoy the cuisine. The kitchen here serves up incredible steak and seafood dishes to its guests with a great variety of flavor profiles and cooking techniques. Popular with patrons is the five-course tasting menu. This ever-changing menu rotates seasonally, so guests are always treated to the freshest ingredients possible. The chef determines the proteins that go into the tasting based on what is in stock and fresh. Guests have salmon, mussels, pork and even quail as part of this unique experience. For a small additional charge, The Palace also offers a Wagyu beef tasting as an appetizer before the main courses begin.

Loved our experience on a Friday night @ the Palace. Key SF corner spot, longtime Palace Steakhouse, has a new look inside-still a bit rough from the outside. The food is definitely the highlight, interior decor not uber cool, but comfortable. The staff steered us towards the prix fixe 5 course Chefs menu, and we were treated to a wide spectrum of flavors-all delightful. Even if the surroundings feel a little like "economy" class, the food easily rises above.

This restaurant is a diamond in the rough. Outstanding food was featured in the chef's tasting menu-- interesting eclectic tastes prepared with attention to detail. Each course provided a unique surprise. Setting is simple, but pleasant. An excellent off-the-beaten path destination.

We live in East Bay and have been for almost 2 years. We went last year as a special occasion, but it's kinda hard to get down to the Mission with work and busy weekends. When I asked what she wanted to do again for a birthday dinner (thinking other places that are more expensive) she immediately said "The Palace, hands down. I want to go back there." The food is in itself an experience. They are incredibly kind and courteous. I was a bit worried at first because we were the only people in the restaurant for 5 minutes, but then it got half full by about 7:30 on a Saturday. Everything there is creative, delicious, and visually stunning.

Took 5 people for my birthday. We have all lived in the city 15+ yrs and know the restaurant scene well. All of us were disappointed. The sauces were flat at best and un-original. The presentation was good, not great. Two choices for wine (1 red 1 white), one for beer. You are not allowed to purchase a bottle of wine they pour by the glass, you have no idea of the price per glass. The ambiance is terrible, this would be fine if the food was above average. However, we cannot report the food being above average. Every time a new dish came out we were excited, each time we ended the dish talking about our disatisfaction and how we felt let down. What pushed this over the edge and into a truley terrible expereince was the celebrity chef showing up in a suit to deliver one dish to the table. We assumed this was his way of explaining all was ok he was here. However, it was in a suit not an apron which it desparetly needed to be that night.

As a child I walked past this place called the "Place Steak House" for many years getting off at 24th st Bart and walking to my dad's place. What an irony to see 25 years later has been transformed into an amazing little gem of an eatery - retaining deliciousness and grittiness in its dishes and decor, respectively. I would be sad to see this place go out of business but worried about its ability to survive in current venue of gentrification.....

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. I checked online to determine if I should bring wine or not, and the website indicated there is NO corkage fee. This information needs to be updated to $15.00 corkage. That was my only disappointment. Five course prix fixe is what we were served, all dishes had protein, fish, fowl, pork & beef. It was a lot of protein. I would have preferred one less protein and made the 5th dish the dessert. Both of us took our beef dish home because we were too full. Overall an enjoyable experience, good service and food was delicious.

I've driven by this place for many years and keep thinking, "I should try that." Once I did I wondered why I waited so long. This isn't an everyday outing as it's a bit on the expensive side, but it's really great for a special occasion or when you have friends in from out of town. The building and decor are NOT modern, it's got old world charm, and you're going for the food and wine pairings. All in all, this was a great experience. Call first, and find out what's on that days' menu.

We loved the food here. The presentation was very nicely done. The services was very slow, which we sort of knoew going in, but there were long periods of inattention which were a bit frustrating. There was no wine list, and the price of the two wines offered were not disclosed. The $15 per glass wine seemed steep for the quality. Overall I htink they are trying hard to please - the hostess was very sweet - but we were there more than 2.5 hours and spent too much time waiting between course drinking overpriced wine. Do yourself a favor, eat there, but take advantage of their modest $15 corkage...

The food is amazing, beautifully prepared, and delicious. They clearly focus all attention on the food and not the decoration, but the result is a chef's selection that is both a treat and a steal.
