About this restaurant

  • Romantic
The Pelican Club is a restaurant serving progressive takes on American cuisine, exploring new ways of combining flavors and fusing culinary cultures from around the world. Ross Warhol, the executive Chef has worked in some of the most renowned and celebrated restaurants from around the world before opening The Pelican Club. His philosophy is to take the various cooking traditions from around the U.S. and blend them into one another to create something entirely new. Starters include a traditional Creole gumbo, New England clam chowder, snapper crudo and chicken fried green tomatoes. On the entree side, the dishes are just as varied in their flavors with barbecue gulf shrimp, brown sugar glazed salmon, zinfandel braised lamb chops and roasted diver scallops. Save room for dessert, because The Pelican Club serves a Young's Chocolate Stout cheesecake with macerated raspberries and a white chocolate sorbet.

This is one of the best meals I have ever eaten. I had the restaurant week special. Everything was superb including the chocolate dessert( I'm not a chocolate fan).

Food was good - on the expensive side but we knew that going in. Service was SLOW both in the Bar area and Dining room. Slow Service was mentioned many times on other reviews too. Probably won't go back to Galveston to eat there. Will try somewhere else next time.

Nice atmosphere and food was good. My husband's venison dish was excellent. That being said, the waiter was poorly trained, didn't know menu, and could not pour a glass of wine without dribbling it on the table. Not sure if will revisit.

Felt like a scene from an old movie set in the 50's or 60's which was also the average age. A great place for an intimate dinner and the bar looks like a great place to hang out for a drink. The gumbo I had was the best gumbo I've had on the island, even better then the Gumbo Bar. My companion had the snapper appetizer which was quite delicious. However both our entrees were a bit disappointing in comparison to the great appetizers. I had the parmesan crusted snapper which was served on a bed of risotto but the Parmesan and risotto over powered the fish which you could barely taste because it couldn't compete with the rich flavors surrounding it. My other half had the lamb which fared better with the beets and kale adding some contrast to the mound of grits, which like the risotto was kind of one note in it's richness. Dessert was consequently out of the question because dinner was too filling. I look forward to trying other items as the menu changes seasonably.

I've been in Galveston 11 years now and The Pelican Club is the first restaurant in town I've been to that felt like a dining experience. From the design of the dining room to the service to the menu - all were spectacular. The Pelican Club is excellent and I would gladly return and recommend it to anyone who appreciates great food.

This was our third trip to the new Pelican Club and all have been nice experiences. The lighting and atmosphere is brighter and a little more upscale than the old club. This trip, I had the red snapper on risotto and it was excellent. My wife had the barbeque shrimp and it was a bit salty and slightly overcooked and the bbq sauce had too much worcheshire sauce for our taste. It was OK. The wine list is adequate and service was good. The barbeque shrimp kept me from giving this a 4 star rating.
