   Waited about 20 min. before a server greeted us and took our drink orders. Bread for the table was promised 3x before it was actually brought out. Was only served 4 out of the 5 course of the pre-fixie dinner, never received the 3rd course. Will chalk it up to a busy night.

   We experienced more downs than ups during the meal. The ambiance was nice. Most of the staff were kind. However, some foods were below the bar and our server was unresponsive. The grass-fed ribeye was okay but the New York wagyu was juicy. The server recommended the octopus appetizer, but it was almost too salty to eat. And we had to wait for at least 20 minutes so that the server could return it to the kitchen. The server brought another appetizer, then he never came back to the table until the very end. We waited for another 20-plus minutes so that another server came to ask whether we were finished and brought the dessert. Then we found the manager brought the check, and our server suddenly returned with another check! Both checks still had the returned appetizer on them! It took us over 2 hours to finish a 3-course meal, and half of the time was just waiting, waiting, and waiting. This is such a unique place but we unfortunately could not recommend it.

   This was our second time coming to the Royce; the 1st was about 10 years ago. We had the charred octopus, Caesar salad, the Hamachi, a kids meal, and two steaks. The appetizers were incredible - chef clearly has a handle on sauces. The steaks were just OK. Certainly not the showstoppers they were 10 years ago. For the price paid, it was not worth it. The Prime New York was undercooked and bland, and the Wagyu Ribeye was very thin - esp disappointing considering it was $128.00. After delivering the food, the waiter didn’t check on us as he should’ve. Had he, we may have mentioned the issues with the meat. Probably why he didn’t come back. All that said, the inside of the restaurant is beautiful & I’m sure during the day it offers great views.

   The chef sent out a mushroom tea- a broth with truffles. Loved it! The beet salad was disappointing, but the grilled salad was excellent. We ordered the porterhouse steak. It was good, but not impressive. The baked potato was to die for! It tasted like Mac and cheese. Definitely order the South Pasadena cocktail-OMG- so good! We will go back. Service was excellent as was the ambiance!

   Not worth the fare…. Food was no better than an average wedding dinning. For the price point, one would expect better quality, presentation, and care. A disappointing experience

   The food was all excellent, we had a wonderful experience celebrating a retirement. The service from Ben was excellent with great wine recommendations. The Chef, Jorge came out to greet us and explain all the different appetizers. A beautiful meal with exceptional service. We will definitely come back in the near future. Highly recommend!

   The best part of our experience was the service. Our server was very attentive, polite. Water was offered frequently. Food was so, so.

   If perfection exists, then dinner at The Royce was perfection. Environment, ambiance, service, and menu - not a false note. Do not want to recommend too highly as to avoid it being overrun by the masses. What a great place to have had Christmas dinner.
