The Springwood can be summed up effectively as a neighborhood restaurant, whose values, regarding the menu, focus greatly on locally sourced ingredients, hyper-seasonality, regenerative farming practices and minimizing waste.

The restaurant is the brainchild of local entrepreneurs Matthew Simpson (Chef) and Jasmine Lee (General Manager). Partners in business and in life since 2007.

To further their knowledge of the Hospitality industry they made their way to Downtown Toronto, where they were able to hone their crafts working in upscale and well-known restaurants for nine years. The end goal was always assured though, that they would come back to the town that gave them their start and help bring a special space to the place that they grew up.

As you make your way inside, you will be met with warm wood, lush plant life and funky art deco accents. We want this space to feel as though you are stepping into our home and we welcome you all to Come Over for Dinner.

    This was our first time going to the Springwood Restaurant. Our daughter and son gave us a gift certificate for Christmas. We were so impressed with everything from the food to the service and our waitress was unbelievable and so knowledgeable. She explained everything about what was in the food etc. what a pleasant and wonderful experience. We will be telling everyone about our wonderful experience with this restaurant. Thank you!!!

    Fabulous family style meal, at a really creative and fun restaurant. We had seven items, and they were all fantastic! It’s so fun to share and there wasn’t a single thing we didn’t really enjoy. My favourites are the pate with waffles, the amazing sourdough bread, and the coffee cardamom ice cream. But honestly, everything is fantastic! The service is amazing and it’s a fun ambience. Once we’re back from a holiday, we’re going to try to go once a month! Make sure you reserve ahead… it’s busy.

    It was our first time at The Springwood and our server was very helpful guiding us through the menu and how we should approach it. The cocktail options are amazing, innovative and offer lots of fresh ingredients. The craft beers are local and offer something for everyone. The food was fresh and big portions, designed for sharing.

    I don’t think there’s anything like this place in Durham. The food and service are absolutely unmatched. The servers all all very kind and knowledgeable and the food is all seasonal and local. We recommend it to everyone we know

    This was my second visit to The Speingwood. Both times we did the tasting menu and I was left speechless. Everything is amazing. I tell everyone about the food and experience here.

    We wanted to try this restaurant after reading all the rave reviews. The staff is great and the restaurant was packed. We tried the three course menu for all of us. Complementary smoked fish dip and bread was yum. The quality of food was good, but was very fruit/vegetable heavy. No chicken, seafood or beef was served. Which was disappointing. Only pork was served. Which tasted OK. I don’t know how courses were distributed. But at the end only one small slice of buttermilk cake was served between 3 of us. I expected everyone would at least get their own dessert but guess not ! We ordered cocktail and it was average. Overall was underwhelming for us, nothing spectacular . May be we went with wrong expectations.
