The Ubiquitous Chip

Scottish
Opened in 1971, celebrated Glasgow restaurant, The Ubiquitous Chip, has almost single-handedly kept Scottish cuisine on the menu for forty years. Now that local cuisine is very firmly back in fashion, The Ubiquitous Chip is more popular than ever, still offering the same excellent locally produced, provenance stated food that it sought to protect all those years ago. Situated on a cobbled alley in Glasgow’s fashionable West End, the restaurant is quirky and comfortable with quarry tile floors, white dressed tables and colourful wall hangings. An extensive range of high quality wines to suit all pockets accompany the Chip’s wonderful two AA Rosette Scottish menu with its refined, gourmet flavour.

It was my first time there. Nice atmosphere, great service and the food was good. I thought it was a little pricey for what it was and the some of the portions were small. My friend had the loin as a starter and there were only two pieces of meat. However good food and cant really complain

The Ubiquitous Chip in Glasgow was a wnderful venue for our lunch on Saturday. The food was superb and the staff were very welcoming especially as we just came in from the hail-storm. Nice bottle of Planalto topped off this memorable lunch.

This was my first visit to the Ubiquitous Chip in Glasgow after being recommended by a friend who has most of his family celebrations there. I was not disappointed. The location down what seemed like a small village lane was only 20 yards from the underground. Inside was equally impressive and pleasantly relaxing and unprepossessing. The service was attentive and relaxing without being intrusive, but the star was the food which was wonderfully fresh and very tasy.

Ubiquitous Chip Glasgow is one of the most established good food venues and it continues to produce interesting meals. The early evening menu had a varied choice and although the portions needed to be supplemented by extra sides it was still good value given the standard of cooking and the localy sourced ingredients. The atmosphere was vibrant midweek and the location adds to the charm.

Had a pre-theatre meal in the Ubiquitous Chip last night and it was lovely. 2 courses for £20. Lovely setting in the downstairs restuarant. Only slight niggle was the number of waiting staff who came to our table to enquire if all was well. Must have happened about a dozen times during the meal. Once would have been fin. Otherwise a great meal. We will be back!

Last night, five of us went to the Ubiquitous Chip in Ashton Lane, Glasgow. The place has fairy lights, lots of foliage and a fish pond in the corner. Service was fantastic- our distinguished Irish waiter gave my four-year-old some food to feed the fish with (which made his night). By far the best thing was the food- I had a small but perfectly formed potato and crab cake with apple mayonnaise to start (devine!) followed by a pidgeon and venison suet pudding on a bed of pearl barley - wonderful!
