My husband and I love coming to The Union Kitchen Katy for planned and unplanned lunches, dinners, happy hours, or special events. We dined here on Mother's Day and had a wonderful meal. We also celebrated my birthday here earlier in May and it was such a wonderful time to just relax and have a nice meal. We both think the service is great and it has truly become a favorite of our family.

We got there for a reservation at 2:30pm and were told it would take a little over an hour for food, so we ordered appetizers and entrées together, and we did not get our appetizers until 4:00pm. It was unbelievable. We only received them because we asked for an ETA and planned to leave with our family. Hours of waiting with no compassion or care from those working, and after that long wait, the food was not up to par, which was disappointing. Cold eggs, they ran out of lemonade, lack of seasoning, and the list goes on, but needless to say, we will not be returning, and hope they learn not everyone will be as patient as we were, because we should have left after the hour of waiting.

I’ve only been there once to the Katy location so I only have one experience to reference. Unfortunately, it was on Mother’s Day probably the busiest day of the year for them. We had a reservation. Thankfully our waiter told us before we ordered that there were long wait times for food about 40 minutes or more. Our waiter seemed to be frazzled over the busyness. It took about an hour and 15 minutes for our food to arrive. The table next to is left saying it was taking too long. Our waiter forgot about my mother’s drink and it wasn’t until about 20 minutes later did she get his attention and remind him. At one point he was talking to us and then realized he had made some mistake with another order and said he had to go. Hopefully all of this was just because of the busyness of the holiday. We did enjoy our food once we got it.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us, and especially for choosing to spend Mother’s Day at our Katy location. We’re truly sorry to hear that your visit didn’t go as smoothly as it should have. While holidays are undoubtedly busy, we know that long wait times and service hiccups can affect the overall experience, and we appreciate your patience and understanding. We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed your meal once it arrived, and we hope you'll give us another chance to provide the level of service we aim for every day. I assure you, Sunday was not the norm for us. Rebekah Vera

We had reservations for 1:15 on Mother's Day. When we arrived, they let us know that the kitchen was 45min-1hour behind. Ok, not great but you can't get into any place on Mother's Day without a reservation so we decided to have a drink and wait it out. We saw tables getting up and leaving saying they had waited 2 hours and still didn't have food. We had hoped that would move out food ticket up. The kitchen kept sending out food but people had already left. They should have offered the food to other tables that were waiting but they didn't, I saw it go back into the kitchen. Our server comp'd a couple of our drinks. They did end up bring out some deviled eggs that we didn't order-4 to an order and we had 5 people. We decided we would be willing to wait until 2:30 before we would leave. We ended up leaving at 3 with our food never being served. My Mother's Day meal was at Whataburger. We laughed a lot and tried to make the most of it being hilarious celebrating Mother's Day at Whataburger. Our server said they took on 500 reservations and that typically they do 300. OK, so why..what happened? We never saw a manager, I was told they were in the kitchen trying to get things out. I totally understand that and that's where they should have been. Poor planning is no excuse. Most mothers give of themselves non-stop and it sure would have been nice to have a nice meal with my family that I didn't have to plan, purchase, prep, cook and clean up. Oh well, I guess I got that at Whataburger.

First and foremost, thank you for your feedback, and I’m so sorry that your Mother’s Day experience with us was far from what it should have been. We completely understand how frustrating it must have been to wait for over 2 hours, especially after making a reservation with the hope of having a special meal with your family. We sincerely apologize for the delays, the confusion with the food, and the lack of communication from our management team. The situation you described is certainly not the level of service we aim to provide, and we will be working to ensure that something like this does not happen again. We truly hope you'll give us another chance to show you the level of service and experience you expect from us. We would love the opportunity to make it right. Please give us a call

MOTHERS DAY - this has to be noted as there was a known and expected wait, however there seemed to be a few gaps in staff communication. We were seated and sat for 20 min before anyone came. The eventual waiter wasn't even assigned to our table but took care of us. No problem with the staff, attitudes and food for the most part....just hard to have a strong desire to return at the moment.

Thank you for your honest feedback and for spending Mother’s Day with us—we truly appreciate it, even though we clearly fell short of delivering the experience you deserved. We're especially sorry for the delay in being greeted and the confusion around server assignments. That’s not the level of hospitality we strive for. We’re grateful for your kind words about the staff’s attitude and the food, and we’ll be sure to share your comments with the team to help us improve. We hope you'll consider giving us another chance down the line—we’d love the opportunity to provide the experience you should have had. Please reach out at 281.665.3007, I would love to personally ensure your next experience is a stellar one. Rebekah Vera General Manager

We had a 12:45 reservation and left after 2:15 never having received our food. There was an extraordinary problem with the kitchen, apparently. We were seated as soon as we arrived and were told the kitchen was 20 minutes behind. We were told it would be 45 minutes when we ordered and gave up after an hour and a half. A very disappointing Mother’s Day.
The Union Kitchen (Katy)Responded on May 14, 2025
I’m really sorry your Mother’s Day turned out that way. You came in with a reservation and still left without getting your food — that’s not okay, and we completely dropped the ball. We had some serious kitchen issues that day, but we should’ve communicated better and handled things differently. I hate that we let you down on what should’ve been a special day. If you’re open to it, I’d love the chance to make it up to you. Please give us a call, we would love the opportunity to win you back. Rebekah Vera

Mother’s Day 2025 was horrible. Made reservations and were seated on time. Waited almost 2 hours for food because kitchen was behind. We’re not told this when we sat down or even if we ordered. Service was not great - server was mostly not anywhere to be found. I normally like this place and their food. But will not be going back after this experience. Many tables walked out

Waited more than 1.5 hours for food that never came. The kitchen was severely over capacity. Rather than prevent/ triage, they set up their service staff to fail by letting more people in.

We’re truly sorry for the experience you had. Waiting over an hour and a half without receiving your meal is unacceptable, and we completely understand your frustration. You're absolutely right — when the kitchen is over capacity, it’s our responsibility to manage expectations and limit the strain on both our staff and guests. We take your feedback seriously and are actively reviewing how we handle high-volume times to prevent this from happening again. Our team should never be set up to fail, and our guests should never be left waiting without clear communication. We would love the chance to make this right. Please give us a call Rebekah Vera

We have been here before and had never experienced this before. In fact, I don’t think I have ever experienced this at any restaurant before. It’s was Mothers Day. It was busy but several tables were open. We waited for our food for almost an hour and half, and never received it! Our server was good but he told us the manager (we did not ask for one) would speak with us after the extreme wait time. One never came. Our server said no time frame for the food and really couldn’t guarantee we would receive anything at this point. I tried to give the food zero stars as we did not get anything except one small appetizer that came out at the 45 mins mark. We ended up leaving after the server said the Ice Tea and two drinks were taken care of. I have never ordered food from a restaurant and it just never came.

We're so sorry to hear about your experience on Mother’s Day. We completely understand how upsetting it must have been to wait that long without receiving your food—especially on a day meant for celebration. This isn't the experience we want for any of our guests, and we truly apologize. I assure you, we are taking measures to ensure this does not ever happen again. I have spoken with the front managers, and will ensure that they follow up with EVERY single table as well. We would love if you could give us another chance, please give us a call at 281.665.3007, so that we can make it right. Rebekah Vera General Manager
