About this restaurant

  • Romantic
  • Innovative
  • Neighborhood gem
Nestled in the heart of scenic Palmer Lake, Colorado, the Villa building itself is rich with history and old-world charm. Constructed around 1900 by John Lundquist, a Swedish carpenter, in 1912 the building was sold to Bruce and Alice Willis, who opened the Sundance Café and Hotel on the premises. During its history, the building has also served as a post office and ice cream parlor. The Romitti family opened the Roman Villa Restaurant in 1956 and operated in this facility through 1978. Linda Van Scoten Snyder served as proprietor from 1980 to 2000 during which time the lovely and romantic north dining room was added.

The bread was stale. The gnocchi with mushrooms had a strange flavor - almost too much nutmeg or ?? we couldn't quite tell what it was. Pretty pricey for average food. Sorry but we won't be back.

Our Sunday brunch was amazingly tasty, portions were large and the staff, chef and owner very nice!

Chris could have been a bit more on his game... He forgot things we asked for and didn't check often enough to see whether we needed more coffee or water. Otherwise he was delightful as a waiter and cheerful.

I would love for this place to be successful under this ownership, however when waitstaff turn their nose up at you for your wine, appetizer and dinner selections, I'm not sure success is in the future. This has occurred the last 2-3 times we have visited and sadly, the quality of the food decreased significantly on our last visit. The pasta was horribly over spiced and dressing grossly over dressed and ridiculously oily. While the location is convenient for us to frequent, I'm not sure we will be inclined to go back.

The food was very good but we were very surprised that there was no bloody Mary mix for a bloody Mary. Also when he asked for butters there wasn’t any. Then my husband asked for a Captain and Coke and they did not even have that and just brought out a different one. They would definitely need to change some of those things for us to want to come Back there on a regular basis.

I will start with the good thing. The food was very good. But service and the atmosphere needs a lot of help. My husband’s order was wrong, but it was quickly corrected. I asked for more Parmesan cheese, never got it . They decided that they would be moving tables around in the bar area where we were seated, in between lots of tables of people who were eating or trying to eat their dinner. It was very loud and annoying. We had a coupon that we gave the server when we ordered and she forgot to put it on the bill. Not sure that we will return.

We had sunday brunch: chicken and waffles. Fried chicken (a single boneless breast) was very good; waffles were dry. We've had other meals there that were very good, but wouldn't order the waffles or waffle sandwich.
