The Wong family opened their first Welcome Restaurant in Northern Ireland in 1973. The Stranmillis Restaurant was opened in 1982 by the then Lord Mayor, Tom Patton. Now in it’s second generation, it is the longest established Chinese restaurant in the country.

Charlie Wong, son of the founder, took over the restaurant in 2016 after working for over 10 years abroad in places such as USA, Bhutan, Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong.

The Welcome Takeaways are now independently run by his cousins.

We hadn’t visited in a long time but the quality of the food was as amazing as I remembered it to be. A lovely treat for my mum and me. Their Covid guidance and actions were clear and tables well spaced so we felt very at ease eating there. Staff were very kind and attentive. Thanks!

Absolutely fantastic experience it was my daughters 18th and the treatment was first class well above what I was expecting will definitely be back again

Lovely restaurant with tasty food and good sized portions. Could not fault the service - we were served quickly and the staff were very friendly and so helpful.

Very helpful and friendly staff, the food was excellent and tasted so fresh. The restaurant was pretty busy but very well spaced out so I felt very safe given the current situation. Will definitely be back

Fabulous Chinese - easily the best in Belfast - would echo the standards of the Good Earth in London - although the Welcome is probably slightly better!
