THE WOODSMAN IS A TRULY BRITISH RESTAURANT
We use the best British ingredients, all sourced as sustainably as possible.

We love using Wild food, and harvest much of it ourselves. All the meat on our menus is “nose to tail” so the menu is ever changing, and we waste nothing. We even employ our own head ranger to keep the deer herds on the land we manage under control, and have our own deer larder in the Cotswolds where this amazing product is processed.

Our fish comes from day boats in Cornwall.

We work with the seasons, ensuring the very best truly local veg is with us the day after its picked. Our food is cooked over wood from local plantations, and charcoal coppiced less than 20 miles away.

We know the story of everything on the menu.

Our lovely staff are extremely well informed, so, do ask questions on anything you’re not sure of.

We have been looking forward to eating here for over a year and finally had a reason to book in (for my birthday) we chose to go for the Sunday Lunch and we were so so so disappointed. I'd read reviews beforehand and waved out any negative ones thinking people were being overly picky but boy oh boy was I wrong. We ordered the beef and the chicken with plans to do the two course and have a cheeseboard and cheesecake to finish but after the main was such a devastating let down we left it at that. The only delicious element was the beef, the chicken looked anemic (the skin was slimy) and under seasoned, the roast potatoes (sadly as many mentioned on the review know trip advisor) were hard and cold, the parsnips were ridiculously hard, the gravy was watery and our additional sides were nothing to write home about. If your thinking of dining here I'd give it a miss personally I'm sure there are better places in Stratford and beyond.

Drinks service was a little slow but didn’t stop us having a lovely evening. The food was tasty and portion sizes were good. The price for the lamb special for 2 was a tad high at £85.

We have wanted to visit this restaurant for so long as we are huge Mike Robinson fans, and it did not disappoint. I can’t recommend it highly enough, the food is outstanding and utterly delicious. The building is beautiful and maintained throughout to a high specification. The adjoining hotel is worth a stay in too.

Our experience was probably heavily affected by the fact it was a Sunday. Unfortunately the experience of the chef's truly delicious food was marred by the unhelpful lack of information which would have warned us of the huge portion size of the Roast dishes. As was obvious from most of the fellow guest and the amount of food waste going back, it was not just us. No one likes to feel they are being had, so suggesting an extra side of dish of cauliflower cheese when all the time fully aware that abnormally large portion size of meat and vegetable would be more than sufficient seemed like a ploy to up the total - increasing the compulsory £16.00 tip. It was disrespectful both to the hard work of the chef and the team, and to the planet, to wilfully refuse to reduce the inevitable food waste - and that left a bad taste in an otherwise faultless meal.
