THE WOODSMAN IS A TRULY BRITISH RESTAURANT
We use the best British ingredients, all sourced as sustainably as possible.

We love using Wild food, and harvest much of it ourselves. All the meat on our menus is “nose to tail” so the menu is ever changing, and we waste nothing. We even employ our own head ranger to keep the deer herds on the land we manage under control, and have our own deer larder in the Cotswolds where this amazing product is processed.

Our fish comes from day boats in Cornwall.

We work with the seasons, ensuring the very best truly local veg is with us the day after its picked. Our food is cooked over wood from local plantations, and charcoal coppiced less than 20 miles away.

We know the story of everything on the menu.

Our lovely staff are extremely well informed, so, do ask questions on anything you’re not sure of.

We hope you love this restaurant as much as we do and keep coming back.

Super good roast dinner - the best in fact. We have been many times before and on this occasion the service was excellent.

(Would give a 4.5 star rating if I could as we did really enjoy!!!) My boyfriend and I went to The Woodsman for brunch, which is a new offering for the restaurant. We had the dirty eggs and the crab benedict, both of which were delicious. We didn't choose to add the continental selection, as we felt this was a bit too expensive for what it was. Would definitely go back for dinner or lunch if we were back in the area, and I'm sure the restaurant is even more beautiful in summer!

We visited for my husbands birthday - having read good reviews. I was disappointed. The service was ok but not without issues. We waited for around 20 mins to get a waitress’ attention to ask for our bill. I wouldn’t expect this at a Michelin starred restaurant. The most disappointing thing was we ordered a sharing steak, off the special board. It was cooked too early, and our mains plates laid out on the table before we had even had our starters bought out to the table. The waitress took them away without explaining why. I assume then that the meat sat for the entire time we ate our starters, as it was visibly dry by the time it was served. Just disappointing, and overpriced for what we actually received in terms of quality of food and service. It also would have been nice if the staff made more of a fuss of the birthday celebration. That isn’t expected, but it would have been a nice touch. I enjoy paying more for an extra-special meal. But this just didn’t feel very special.

Food was excellent although a little too fussy and rich and our server was good but it felt like no one was driving the ship supporting her. Slow service overall and everything seemed like there was no one taking charge. Felt like they were all avoiding wanting to do the obvious and tne lead helping them in that! The kitchen however seemed to know exactly what they were doing. Pork belly was amazing but more pork belly please and less of the fussy add ons. Still it was a good experience but should have been amazing for £260.

Although the food was tasty and our waitress was friendly, the evening was very much ruined by an incident that was dealt with extremely poorly. My wife chose the Guinea Hen dish and after taking a mouthful of the celeriac commented that it tasted like it contained pieces of bacon in it. My wife does not eat pork so asked the waitress to confirm if it was bacon and also to check the menu to see if it mentioned bacon or pork in the description. The waitress confirmed that it was bacon and we looked through the description which did not mention that fact. The waitress was apologetic and nice about it but as the chef walked past he shrugged and showed no sign of sympathy despite the fact my wife was clearly upset. She did not eat the rest of her meal and we ordered the bill for which we were expecting some sort of compensation, but there was nothing. I explained to the waitress that we were not happy to pay for my wife's dish and she explained that she would need to speak to the chef. After a while she came back and told us that the chef had agreed to reducing the cost of the dish by half. I was not happy with this and told her that I wanted to speak to the chef to be told that he would come over shortly once he finished preparing the dishes that he was making. After waiting 15 minutes the waitress came back over and said that they were going to take the whole cost of the dish off the bill. At no point did anyone come over to apologise apart from our waitress and as we left the maitre d who had been extremely friendly af the start of the night handed us our coats and did not even look us in the eyes. I enjoyed my food and the waitress was lovely but the handling of the issue that arose was appalling and left us feeling completely unwelcome and frustrated.

Excellent dining experience with a well balanced menu and supremely well cooked, and presented food. We took the taster menu with the wine flight, and it was brilliantly balanced, with some nice surprises that I wouldn't have normally considered.

Was just fine - but brunch menu limited, and expensive - left hungry, could have done with sides to choose from.
