Great spot for Tonkatsu. The service is very good and workers are friendly and quick. The portions you get is a lot for what you pay for even though it’s a bit pricey. Everything was fantastic from the food to ordering on the tablet, having a robot carry your meal to the table and how convenient everything was, it felt like you were in Japan. Recommend getting reservations as this new restaurant will start to get more recognition and busy.

The soba and tonkatsu sets are currently $28, which is a bit on the pricey side—but totally worth it! The food is delicious, and the portions are super filling. I got the Kuro Soba & Half Katsu Set.

The experience was unique but not impressive. The menu was a digital tablet on each table, and you were supposed to submit your order on the tablet. The Sprite that I ordered came in less than a minute after the order was submitted, but we were the first people to order, so maybe that was expected. The food we ordered came by robot, which is a thing in Japan now, and though the food was on/in the robot, a server had to follow the robot to take the dishes off/out of the robot and place it in front of you. It was amusing, but that soon wore off. The food was good; not exceptional, but acceptable. I guess it was because there were too many machines involved and less personality, that disturbed me. Places that I rate higher usually have personnel with personalities. I mean, we don't have to become best friends with the staff, but more interaction with someone human would have made the experience a whole lot more pleasant and memorable.

Our goal in using technology like tablets and delivery robots is to support our servers by reducing their workload — not to eliminate human interaction. Guests are always welcome to order traditionally and interact directly with our team, and we’re happy to bring food by hand upon request. That said, we understand that some diners value personal interaction above all else. Since our reservations are limited and often fill quickly, we kindly ask that tables be reserved by guests who truly enjoy and appreciate what we offer. We want to ensure those who are excited about dining with us have the opportunity to do so.

The laptop menu our server kindly told us there’s also paper menu that we could also see. He introduced himself but I have hard of hearing I could not get his name but he was very friendly and cordial. His suggestion of getting the soba combo and one set of tonkatsu meal we can share. The concept of soba and tonkatsu of one’s choice is unique. The Bibim soba texture of the noodles felt a bit different tossed with finely chopped cucumbers and radish garnished with green onions and dried seaweed flakes placed on the side of the dish. After tossing the soba I did like the sauce that wasn’t spicy at all. The neatly rounded cut Katsu and large fluffy breaded prawn made to perfection with a tiny bit of tartar sauce to dip. The garlic sauce and tonkatsu sauce I blended into the saucer to dip the katsu the combination sauces together was amazing! Normally it’s one dipping sauce to dip in but I like it so. The robot bringing the tray of orders our server quickly place it on the table truly an interesting idea to all customers to enjoy! Unfortunately the dessert menu choice was only one item Mascarpone Oreo ice cream should have other dessert options as well? Tonkatsu Kuro only dinner option maybe in the future luncheon as well?

We're glad you had a positive experience and that your server helped guide you through the menu — we’ll be sure to pass along your kind words. It’s wonderful to hear you enjoyed the soba combo, the texture of the Bibim soba, and the sauces. Lightest and crispiest tonkatsu we've had, even including Japan. Service was solicitous and speedy. It was super noisy inside which does not encourage lingering, which is not encouraged anyway. Highly recommend this restaurant to at least experience the tonkatsu.

Aloha Joanne. Thank you for the thoughtful review! We're honored to hear our tonkatsu stood out — even compared to experiences in Japan! We appreciate your feedback about the noise and are always looking for ways to improve the overall dining atmosphere. So glad you enjoyed the service and the food, and we truly hope to see you again for another delicious visit!

The katsu was good but it wasn’t great. However the lemon cold soba noodles is really good! I’d go back for just for that.

This was an interesting place. We made our reservation two months ago and we were very excited for our dinner. Unfortunately, it fell a little short. The Katsu was not hot when it arrived and the texture was strange. Yes it was tender, but almost like it was tenderized. My husband’s katsu was undercooked and they had to bring us some replacement pieces. The sign on the door says they serve Rice Factory rice. But when the rice arrived, it was dull and slightly yellowed. Usually, fresh Japanese rice has a light shininess to it. We suspect it was cooked way in advance…. Like left over rice. The servers were extremely polite. But it’s the little things that showed a lack of attention. They didn’t give us out dish of sesame seeds to grind, didn’t refill the napkins on the table. I had to ask for a new water cup because it was leaking all over the table (must have had a crack). We had to keep calling the servers over with the tablet. I will say for $28, the values is very good as the potion was a good size. Overall, it wasn’t bad. But it wasn’t worth waiting two months. I think a little retraining would cure most of these issues.

Thank you for your thoughtful feedback — and we're truly sorry your experience didn’t meet expectations, especially after such a long wait. We’re addressing the issues you mentioned, from food temperature and rice quality to service details like missing items and communication. We appreciate your kind words about our staff and portion value, and we hope you'll consider giving us another chance to make it right.

I was fortunate to lock in rez for 4 at 5:15 pm on a Thursday. Other times were after 8 pm so best to reserve 2 weeks out. My gal pals and I ordered the Tonkatsu and soba sets. The pork was so tender and the shrimp nicely cooked - thankfully it was not dry as some experienced. We thought there was a “bar” but it turns out, “bar” was actually bar style seating which was like a community table. It’s a good thing they are currently BYOB and the cork screw, wine glasses, and chilled beer mugs provided upon request. So we made a quick run to Whole Foods for some Adult beverages while our food was being prepared.

Aloha Eddie. Thank you for sharing your experience and leaving us a great review! We're so glad you and your friends enjoyed the tonkatsu and soba sets — especially the tender pork and perfectly cooked shrimp. Great call on the BYOB and making the most of it with a quick Whole Foods run! We appreciate you pointing out the bar-style seating — we’ll try to make that clearer for future guests. Hope to have you all back again soon for another fun and tasty night!
