    Join Chef Rick Bayless and Chef Richard Sandoval for a 5-course Viva Abejas-inspired feast paired with agave spirits and bespoke cocktails at Chef Sandoval’s newest Chicago restaurant, Toro. On one night only, you can experience two world-renowned chefs join forces to support Viva Abejas and Frontera Farmer Foundation. Chef Richard Sandoval's Viva Abejas initiative is designed to inspire future generations about the critical role of bees in our ecosystems and the vital connection between food, the environment and sustainability. Viva Abejas supports The World Bee Project and has a goal to educate 60,000 young learners annually. The Frontera Farmer Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, is committed to promoting small, sustainable farms serving the Chicago area by providing them with capital development grants. The Foundation envisions a year-round interchange between sustainable farmers and consumers, including farmers’ market patrons and chefs, in which seasonal local agriculture provides the foundation for sustainable regional cuisine. Doors will open at 5:30pm. Service will begin at 6pm.

    Our server gave stories behind every dish we ordered and how Latin/Asian histories collide to influence the dishes. The food was excellent. We ordered the cachapas, scallops and pork belly and the short rib dish. I will visit again very soon!

    Sushi was AMAZING! Everything was honestly. I came to Toro to celebrate my Birthday with friends and family, we all loved it. I can't wait to come back for some sushi and cocktails.

    Was excited to check this place out so me and girlfriends decide to do a girls dinner. It was a Saturday night and the restaurant wasn’t too busy. It took a little while for our server to come by. We ordered a round of drinks and a crab dip which was good. Small menu. Our appetizer came before our drinks. It took about 25min to get them. Fine it happens. Took another 20min for our server to get our order. Sushi was nothing to rave about and either the octopus. We got the churrasco and it was good. Their service needs improvement. We had to chase down our server for everything. The entertainment was nice!

    Had been looking forward to trying this one for a while and had the family together for a birthday celebration and decided to go. Overall, a very uneven experience. Mostly great food, hit and miss service, though fun environment / decor with uncomfortable seats. Was really expecting and hoping for more given the reputation. We'll likely be back for another try and hope they can iron out the kinks. Cocktails / drinks - waitstaff didn't provide a cocktail / drink menu until we had to ask for it (only gave us the food menu initially). Cocktails were great - Incan Goddess was my favorite, but others enjoyed the Pisco Sour (mostly sweet, less sour) and other drinks. Short, but varied options for wines by the glass. Appetizers showed up without plates and had to flag down the wait staff to get some. Ceviche Amarillo was our favorite, though the mini tacos also received great feedback too. Main course items were all tasty with one exception. The Lomo Saltado was ordered by two different people in our group. One had about three times the amount of bell peppers in it as the other same serving, making it borderline inedible. The peppers weren't even on the ingredient list and ended up being the single largest component of the dish. The other version of Lomo Saltado was much more in line with expectations, so not sure what happened here. The other big hiccup was the sides were not delivered with the mains. When we finally flagged down the wait staff, she apologized stating that the sides got started later than the mains, so would be right out. They delivered the sides a few minutes later. Unfortunately, these were room temperature, so definitely weren't delayed in preparation. At the end of the evening, they brought a small birthday dessert plate, which was a nice touch. So overall, some very nice highlights, but very uneven service and one miss on food quality.

    I had a great time at Toro in Chicago! The staff was very accommodating with our reservation, and everything flowed really well. The food was excellent, portion sizes were solid, and the entertainment made the night even better! Definitely a fun spot to check out.
