The limited menu at this Spanish restaurant was disappointing. Other than the croquetas which were delicious. Great location with fun patio.

We stopped in for some appetizers and a drink and ended up coming back for dinner later that night and then again 2 nights later. The calamari and fish tacos were both extremely tasty. We ended up having the mahi mahi dinner with roasted vegetables and they were cooked to perfection providing us a perfect meal. The wait staff was very friendly and offered great suggestions. The location s right at the start of your trip into Old San Juan and the outside dining had a very nice atmosphere.

We enjoyed the different food and small plates. Very different and delicious food. Loved sitting outside in Old San Juan which we love. We had a nice breeze and we looked at a cruise ship in port. Great service. Loved the food and atmosphere. Would return and would recommend.

We had a lot of great dinners in Puerto Rico. This was not one of them. While a similar check amount to the other restaurants we went to ($50 per person), the quality of the food wasn't nearly as good as other restaurants like Oceano or Cocina Abierta. Further, the Sangria was basically a $28 pitcher of fruit juice. Stay away.

It would have been nice not to have had to ask 3 times for a glass of water, and despite asking for the seafood paella without the sausage, I still got the sausage. I was too hungry to send it back and just picked it out and passed it to my boyfriend. Wasn't the end of the world. It was expensive but old San Juan is expensive. The seafood tasted fresh, great Sangria, and opened table made it really convenient to just walk out of my hotel without worrying.

Not haute cuisine, but for tapas, really well executed and some were excellent with a unique twist. Highly recommend for fun outdoor dining I'm the old town and good quality food.

We made a 7PM reservation on OpenTable. Our plans changed and we arrived a little early. While the restaurant was temporarily closed early to organize from a large function, the staff were very friendly and accommodating. At our assigned reservation time, we were shown a table and had a good meal with very good service. We ate outside and enjoyed the views.

Buried away in the tourist district of old San Juan, this tapas restaurant was well above the pack.

fresh, beautifully spiced food The crispest salads with homemade salad dressing,, mahi mahi tacos are delicious and their patatas bravas are as good as they are in Barcelona. This is an informal place perfect for outside dining and people watching . The wait staff is attentive and firiendly.

We had a New Years Eve reservation (confirmed through Open Table) for 5:00 p.m. When we arrived, we were told by the hostess that although they had our reservation, they did not open until 5:30 and she asked us to come back. That was not a problem for us because we wanted to check out some more of the shops in the area. When we came back at 5:30, the hostess recognized us immediately and apologized for the timing issue earlier. She sat us right away at an outdoor table (which we had requested). Our waitress (wish I remembered her name because she was awesome!) came out right away, greeted us, and took our drink order. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and offered suggestions regarding portion sizes, appetizer selections, etc. We ordered a few appetizers (Empanadas and Queso Fundido) - both were excellent! For dinner, my daughter and husband shared the Steak Paella which they raved about for days after. I had a small side salad (not on the menu, but the restaurant accommodated my request with no hesitation) and the Caprese Flatbread Pizza which was great. Only negative - and it's minor - is that because the street is so steep, the outdoor dining tables are all on an angle. This created an issue anytime the waitress placed a plate of food on the table - it all came sliding toward me because I was on the downside of the angle. We rigged up our own ledge in one of the table slots to stop anything that slid that way from crashing into my lap and the problem went away. The foam coasters do a great job of holding the drinks in place so they don't slide. Suggest that maybe place matts made of the same material would help to keep the food plates from sliding - or get tables with adjustable legs so that you can make the table surface more even to avoid this problem. Overall - excellent service, food, and ambience - well done Toro Salao!
