This family-owned gem, nestled in the heart of Murray Hill, has been serving delicious food since 1981. There is a warm Mediterranean feeling to the setting; a perfect showcase for the exceptional Italian & Croatian food that is served.

The menu features many homemade pastas, classics, and Croatian delicacies, such as seafood Buzara (traditional Dalmatian stew with sea bass, shrimp and clams) and Pasticada (traditional meat with gnocchi). Seasonal items are also available throughout the year, such as soft shell crabs and lager-infused roast pork. Also featured is the Osso Buco, braised veal shank over rice or gnocchi, Vitelli alla Griglia, a signature dish showcasing the broiled king veal chop, and the Pollo Berulia, a chef's special of chicken sautéed in white wine with wild mushrooms and artichoke hearts. Gluten-free and vegetarian options are also available. The extensive wine list features an array of Italian and Croatian wines.

As always, our experience at Villa Berulia was excellent. Service was prompt, professional, and welcoming. Our server answered all of our questions and also made suggestions. Our food choices were outstanding. Our appetizers, pasta with clams, and fillet of sole were exquisite. The wine suggestions were fabulous too! It is always very pleasant to go this nice, stylish, and charming place. A truly exceptional restaurant in the busy and impersonal NYC restaurant scene. Villa Berulia has become a must for lunch or dinner alone or with family and friends.

From start to finish, the entire experience was memorable in a number of ways. From the baked clams appetizer to the tiramisu for dessert, both the food, and level of service was something that is a rarity to find nowadays. The staff was highly attentive, and ensured that our drinks were always full, as well as a complimentary after dinner drink which merely topped off an already amazing meal. 5/5 Would recommend and will be here again.

I’ll start with the positives. The service, staff, and ambiance was great! It was super cozy inside, our servers were very nice and helpful! The negatives were more important here though, unfortunately. No one in our group loved our food. We all tried something different and sampled everyone’s. The tortellini was good, along with the farfalle ai scampi. The prosciutto stuffed chicken special was honestly the worst meal I’ve ever eaten in an Italian restaurant & I did not take more than two bites of the chicken. The lasagna was pretty average and the pollo berula was okay according to the other person in our group. We love Italian restaurants and this was just nowhere near some of the good ones we’ve been to. As I mentioned, service was great! We were just pretty disappointed with our meals.
