Chef Michael Scelfo of Alden & Harlow welcomes Waypoint, his second Cambridge restaurant. Located at the gateway of Harvard Square at 1030 Massachusetts Avenue, “waypoint” often means a plot point on a map. For Chef Scelfo, it signals a natural next step along his culinary journey. From live-fire pizza to raw bar and caviar service, to an expansive absinthe list, the menu at Waypoint reflects his forward-thinking approach to coastally-inspired fare combining approachable ideas and ingredients with elements that are unexpected.

A great meal and a fun time all around. We tried many of the menu items and enjoyed every single one.

We love Alden & Harlow and had high hopes. But the parking in the area is bleak, no one answers the phone like by design - no way to connect with a person or have leave a message, the service was inept, the stager guy was even more so … plus an arrogant a—. We were seated and waited ten minutes for the inept waitress to introduce herself. Two other parties seated behind us were served drinks before we were given a hello. When we asked what’s good she read the whole menu giving no new detail. Service wise the delay between a second course hickory shrimp and the final course of lobster Caccio e Pepe was thirty minutes and no one apologized even though we had to follow up twice to finally be served food that was nearly cold. There were just two small pieces of lobster including half a small claw meat for $38. To add insult to injury they don’t know how to make a manhattan. They used dry vermouth and they used the wrong ratios. The small coupe glass was only half full for twenty dollars. We will not be back and do not recommend anyone visit this place. In many years of using OpenTable this is my most negative review I’ve ever had the occasion to write. Absolutely awful experience.

Went last night for dinner, I looked for best $1 oysters in Boston and this restaurant came up. It really deserves the title. We were 4 for dinner. Had a really cute booth up front. We were the first ones there at a few minutes before 5(they open at 5) but they seated us anyway. My kids ordered burgers , my husband and I had the oysters and the kids tried them too. It was really good and fresh! Amazing. We ordered a plain tomato fresh mozzarella pizza for appetizers and it was so good my husband changed his entree order to another pizza pie. I had the hiramasa. Crudo. It was good but small portion. It was appetizer sized. I would definitely order something different next time. Fresh donuts and budino (pudding) wrapped up the dinner and it was amazing. Fresh made donuts is on another planet. I definitely recommend it. Btw my husband is from Italy and very picky about his pizza. He said it was the best pizza he had had in USA. Bravo!

Waypoint continues to be one of the best spots for seafood meets Italian meets Cambridge. The UNI Bucatini and the various dishes - including the smoked shrimp - insane. Great place - great vibe and the drinks are also delish.

The menu is small to medium sized but has enough variety so something for everyone. Seafood is excellent same with salads and small plates. Pastas, average. VERY loud scene - if you don't love that don't go. Service was very slow and seemed overwhelmed at times.

I appreciate the attempt to be creative but the flavor was just not to my liking., only had a few bites of the crab angel hair pasta, and my wife at half of her mushroom pizza which was I bit of a stretch to enjoy. The French fries were the best part of our meal. If you’re bored and want to experience something different then this may be the right place for you. If you’re just looking for taste comfort food then probably not the best choice.

The lobster pasta was very bad - overcooked and tiny amounts of lobster. The burger was amazing and the donuts out of this world. Come for the burger and desert, don’t splurge on the ‘lobster’.

The food was astonishingly boring. I order a Fraser salad with crabmeat and got a bunch if chopped romaine with some crabmeat thrown on top. The service was good but the food was not
