My husband and I both loved our dinner at Yakitori Hachi Bei despite the fact we thought we were going for sushi and ended up with a 11 course Japanese dinner. No sushi at Yakitori BUT a most delicious, authentic Japanese dinner. Yes, we will go back.

The name of restaurant is “Yakitori Hachibei” but they do not have great variety of chickens. Beef and pork were greasy. I like sukiyaki but do not expect to eat sukiyaki at yakitori restaurant. Also, sukiyaki beef was braised with egg yolk. They need to ask if it’s ok since not all people are ok with row egg. Restaurant looks good and loved to see grill at the counter kitchen. Service was fine. Just disappointed since we had only a few chicken yakitori among omakase course.

This was my first visit. The atmosphere was great, and the open kitchen allowed us to enjoy watching the chefs grill in front of us—it was visually engaging as well. We tried the chef’s omakase course during happy hour. However, I felt that the appetizer with an extra charge was a bit small for the price. Also, although I understand that grilled items like yakitori take time, there was quite a long wait between courses. That said, the server was very attentive throughout, and the service overall was excellent. I especially appreciated that they brought over a fan when it got hot by the window. The server with glasses provided outstanding service—thank you! We also ordered a few items à la carte, and everything was delicious. That said, for a yakitori restaurant, I was disappointed that there weren’t many chicken options. The chef’s special in the omakase course was pork jowl, and the final dish was sukiyaki. The à la carte menu also featured wagyu skewers, beef tongue, and pork. All of it was very tasty, but again—since this is a yakitori place, I really hope to see more chicken variety in the future. As for the drinks, I found the chuhai and highball to be too sweet and lacking in alcohol. While the honey flavor was clearly stated in the highball’s name, the lemon chuhai was surprisingly sweet as well—and it only came with lemon peel, which felt underwhelming. I would love to see improvements in both the variety of chicken dishes and the balance of the drink menu. But thank you.

The food was great and service generally was good. The one negative was the pacing - I think it may have been the rush but the courses took too long to come out. Overall the food was great.

Great restaurant in trendy neighborhood. We tried the omakase 11 course menu item and were pleasantly impressed by the taste and textures of the Yakitori. The last courses were filling and just us feeling good about the experience.

We so enjoyed our first dining experience at Yakitori Hachibei. We went with the $50 omakase option and it did not disappoint! Everything was delicious and the service was fantastic. We plan to visit again soon to try other menu items.

Service was phenomenal, the servers took time to explain each dish and walked us through the menu. The food was fantastic and well paced and portioned. This was well worth a trip while in Honolulu.

This was our 2nd visit to Yakitori Hachibei and it is still as good if not better then we remembered it. We sat on the counter which was kind of fun because we got to see the food as it was being cooked. I'm amazed at the skill of the Yakitori master (no idea what to call him). There were two of them, one person preps the orders and the yakitori master cooks them. The room was filled to near capacity but between the yakitori pit, kitchen and wait staff, they kept things flowing. Though we ordered from the Omakase side of the menu, we even had a added some skewers in between and they handled adeptly. We left with full bellys and smiles on our faces. You simply cannot go wrong here no matter what kind of skewers you like. I noticed that they have happy hour from 3-5:30pm, every day and if you want to save a few bucks, that's the way to go.
