John Ls’ Wine Cellar is not only well stocked with vintages to complement any meal in the Ranch House Restaurant and Saloon, it’s also an intimate and elegant private dining room with a bit of history built right in. In the room, the beautiful cherry wine racks and beams were crafted from 150-year-old cherry trees harvested on the owner’s family land in Adirondack Park in New York. Known hereabouts as John Ls’ Wine Cellar, it’s named in memory of two family members. To get to the wine cellar dining room, you have to pass through the Barrel, a hand-crafted wine uncorking room (for up to 16 people), where you can socialize before your dinner in the Cellar.

No appealing appetizers or sides. Caesar salad was for some reason grilled thus wilted, dressing was flavorless. Ordered $198 wagyu steak and the chef couldn’t cook it to desired temp. First time was under, second time was over. For some reason they still sent it out though. Fries came out floppy like wet noodles. Server removed the fries from the bill but did nothing for us for the poorly cooked expensive steak. She just asked if we were staying at the hotel but when we told her no she decided not to help any further. Total bummer

If the food were half the price I would simply never return and save my opinion. If that was wagyu beef, I’m Michael Jordan. The only beef menu options are all wagyu, fyi. The “wagyu” was served cold (not deliberately). The Halibut was riddled with bones and had an entire stick of melted butter at the bottom of the plate soaking the accompanying vegetables and puree. I’m from Chicago, and we’re a food town. If this restaurant were opened there it would be closed inside of 3 months. Until now I didn’t think it possible to be insulted by a meal.

Overall the experience was good, service was excellent but the notation that the price point is $30-50 is way off!! We were looking forward to a nice steak so we bit the bullet and ordered the Denver Steak at $110 each. Flavor was good but a little on the tough side especially for the price point. Honestly we have had better steak at half the price. Granted we live in Houston so our perspective may be skewed since we have some of the best food in the U.S. Overall a nice dinner but at a final bill over $400 we did not feel the value was in line and consequently won't be returning.

Server was wonderful, gave him 5 stars. For the prices we were a bit disappointed in the menu. Desert another 5-stars was the best part of the meal. We all felt that we would not need to go back and didn't leave feeling that this was the best steak we have ever had. Extremely expensive and the experience was so-so.

Nice enough dinner - but not at the price. Restaurant was empty on a Thursday - too empty. Grass fed wagyu steak is their speciality — and was disappointing. Much prefer tenderloin at Deno’s or Tabernash Tavern.
