Restaurant Rebirth; Where the Locals Eat! - is one of OpenTable’s 2018 "50 Best Southern Restaurants in America”, and features regional Louisiana cuisine perfectly balancing fresh local seafood and bold Cajun flavors. South Louisiana native Chef Ricky Cheramie honed his culinary skills in some of New Orleans' top restaurants including K-Paul's, Emeril’s, and Commander's Palace. He was also influenced by time spent cooking in Boston and Maine, including a stint at the renowned Grill 23. Chef Cheramie creates food for the soul such as Country Gumbo, Blackened Scallops with Maque Choux, and Mississippi-Style Barbeque Pork Belly. Located in the historic Warehouse District, Restaurant Rebirth's intimate dining room, with exposed wood beams and original brick, showcases local art and is the perfect destination to enjoy craft cocktails, as well as a variety of spirits, wines, and local beers.

For an appetizer, we had the Mississippi Style Barbeque Pork Belly. Our entrees were the Double-Cut Cheshire Pork Chop and the Fish of the Day which was Black Drum. The Pork Belly was outstanding, a 4 out of 5. The Pork Chop was also great, a 4 out of 5. However, the Black Drum was a bit on the dry side, so more like a 3 out of 5. Overall, we thought the restaurant was above average of many we have visited when in New Orleans. And the noise levels were excellent on the evening we were there, a Tuesday. We will likely return next time we are in town.

This is a hard one. The food was incredible. Started with the pork belly which was phenomenal, the gumbo and steak were also delicious. The drinks from the bar were also great. However, the restaurant was severely understaffed. We were there for Superbowl, you would hope they would be ready, they weren’t. Took over an hour to get two drinks and our first course. Other tables were just as frustrated. Very disappointed because there was so much potential.

I’m not sure if it was just an off night, but this was not the experience I remember when I last went. We were waiting outside for our table when it was clearly ready, and I finally went inside and asked. The general manager said he forgot to tell us it was ready, and we sat down at the table with no water nor menus for about 5 minutes or so. My girlfriend has a peanut allergy, so we alerted them on the OpenTable app, as well as telling them there. Our waiter insisted he had it under control due to his nephew having an allergy as well, but we continued to ask about what oil they used. Turns out they used a peanut oil blend, and the waiter told her to just eat around the fried things. The allergy is extremely severe and cross contamination is a problem. She ended up just avoiding the appetizers, and just ate dinner. Everything was just okay, nothing exceptionally good. The pork was under seasoned, the fish overcooked, and the steak was hard to eat on the cast iron skillet they bring out. Overall, it was very disappointing that our server was passive about the allergy, and that the food was subpar as compared to other times. The staff seemed very scattered, and we watched the general manager freak out as the bartender decided to take a walk outside in the middle of service. It’s convenient to go here if you’re staying by the convention center, but definitely not worth going out of the way for.

Excellent Smokey Old Fashion cocktail. Pork Belly app is not to be missed. Great bark, meaty and moist. Buttered corn bread excellent. Filet Mignon was flavorful, prime grade. However it was brought to the table sizzling, with a sear that was overdone. The filet did not have an adequate rest period. Rest is essential to achieve the flavorful silky mouth feel. My companion had the fish of the day, and it was also a bit overcooked. Service was attentive. silverware was cheap, and no steak knife. A serrated knife was provided. Perhaps I am a bit picky, but a sharp single bladed steak knife is a thing I expect. to have when cutting and judging a high quality cut of beef. Overall I would visit again! an above average experience!

From the moment the manager greeted me at the door, to when I walked back out of it, the entire experience was stellar. The restaurant is warm and welcoming, the staff attentive but unobtrusive, and the food - well, it was probably the best meal I’ve had in 5 years, maybe a decade. I was a single, and sat at the bar - which was a treat. Jen (the bartender) makes a mean cocktail, and walked me through their extensive tequila selection. She suggested I try ArteNOM 1146 which was a perfect suggestion! The oysters and angel hair pasta was a perfect starter - who knew that crispy juicy fried oysters over pasta with a Parmesan black pepper cream sauce would be so amazing? Perhaps even better was the double-cut Cheshire pork chop - cooked to perfection with a sticky sugarcane glaze, stacked with crispy shallot rings. The farm-to-table approach ensures that everything is fresh and seasonal - the chef simply makes amazing food, and the staff executes to perfection. I’ve been to a lot of New Orleans best restaurants, this one is my new favorite.
