The Food: The food was overall good but there are better options in the city. My wife’s beef cheeks needed a little more braising to achieve the desired tenderness. My lamb chops were tasty, perfectly seasoned and grilled. Cocktails were great.
The Space: The restaurant is on the main floor adjacent to the lounge area. Overall, it is a beautiful space to visit during the Christmas holidays. The restored bank architectural features were amazing. However, there is not much separation between the lounge and dining area. A steady stream of people were entering the area to take pictures and selfies leading to a not-so-intimate dining experience, especially at the price point.
The service: First, the strange thing. All the hotel employees kept asking “Do you have a reservation?” When I checked into the hotel and told the desk clerk we were going to dine at the restaurant, this was her first response. When went to check in with a bartender (we didn’t see the host) we were asked the same question. Once turned over to the waiter, asked again. However, the restaurant was only about 40% full at 20:30 so I didn’t see the concern unless they were trying to make some sort of faux exclusivity. Note: the restaurant never did go over 50% capacity by the time we left at 22:00 and they were taking walk-ins. And when I booked on OpenTable one day prior every time slot was available.
Second thing. Overall service was basic. While this might just be a irritant to me, I hate it when you are seated, given the menus and the server comes back, with pen & pad, three minutes later and starts out with “You ready to order?” This might be marginally appropriate in causal restaurant, but I expect more if they trying for fine dining experience. Please greet me, tell me if there are any specials, if anything is sold out, what is the chef’s signature or most popular dish. A server does not have to go overboard, but a little interaction goes a long way.
