   I have dined at Spencer’s many times, and I made this reservation a week in advance, specifically for the courtyard. Upon arrival, I was led not to the courtyard, but to a dark interior booth. I calmly reminded the host that my reservation was for outside, and was met with a flat, dismissive “we have nothing.” No apology, no effort, just a robotic brush-off. Several minutes later, the host returned and led my out-of-town guest, my husband, and me not to the courtyard, but to a bizarre patch of concrete facing the tennis courts, an area so unconsidered, I didn’t know it existed. There was dirt behind my chair, and at times, servers had to walk through it to reach us. Midway through dinner, another couple was inexplicably seated near us, and our entire table had to be physically moved to accommodate them. It was clear this was a forgotten overflow area, makeshift at best, neglected at worst. I have framed photos on my wall from cherished dinners at Spencer’s. But last night, seated on bare concrete with a view of tennis courts and foot traffic behind me, I was humiliated. For a place I’ve held in such high regard, this experience was not just disappointing, it was insulting.

   On the patio again on a beautiful sunny day… food and service perfect…that is why we have enjoyed Spencer’s often for our 20 years here…

   We visit Palm Springs about twice a year. Spencer's is almost always a stop. Nice environment, Nice menu, Nice wine list. We usually go with the 3-course Prix Fixe Menu. We typically don't eat a lot and this size meal fits our needs well. We both had the Roasted Red and Yellow Beet Salad. both tasty and enjoyable. One of us had Oven Roasted Sonoma Duck Breast and the other the Boneless Slow Braised Beef Short Ribs. Both were nicely done and flavorful with enough left-overs for us to take home. Spencer's did accommodate one lactose intolerance well in the meal. For dessert, one of us had a Birthday and received a small dish of ice cream (with candle) in addition to his dessert choice - carrot cake. The other had the Sorbet Trio. We did ask to be seated in the patio area. If the weather is right, it is so much more inviting than in the inside dining area.

   Lovely higher end restaurant with valet parking for $3, attached to a tennis club. Dress is casual during the day (don’t know about dinner) and everyone was having a great time. Martinis were plentiful and staff bustled about. Very enjoyable.

    After 20 years of going to Spencer's it still does not disappoint! Good food, outstanding service, overall a good value. Plus upscale ambience. You can't go worng.
