I was super disappointed in this place. It is very well known, but doesn't have the 'stuff' to live up to the reputation. We had a hard time getting a beginning alcoholic cocktail, they pushed the shrimp cocktail on us to the point it was obsessive, and the food was not good. My steak, a rib-eye, was undercooked and grizzly. The baked potato was okay, not great and what is that bean soup??? Did they open a can of Campbells and heat it up? The service was also terrible, they try to turn tables. With so many much nicer steak houses in the area, they should be empty, but the name brings in people, like me. Never again.

I visit Indianapolis several times per year and always go to St. Elmos. This time was very different. Service was not great and steaks were undercooked. Just overall not great.

So many times when you see a “classic steakhouse” you will find an outdated menu and a dining room stuck in the past. St. Elmo’s has mastered the art of combining a dining spot steeped in rich history all while keeping up with the times. From their signature shrimp cocktail (and a house-made cocktail sauce that has plenty of kick) to their dry-aged steaks, they continue to set a benchmark for outstanding flavors and experiences. The wine list is well curated and should you be so lucky as to tour the cellar…do. The staff is knowledgeable without being condescending. The cocktails were top notch. Highly recommend.

For our first time to Indianapolis, it was the best part of our experience. The food was delicious as was the ambience of the restaurant. Very high-end and high-quality employees from the tuxedos to the red dresses. It really was a throwback to the opening of the restaurant. To top it off the 1933 lounge on the second floor was a cut above. Thanks and will return.
