About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for fine wines
  • Charming
ST. JOHN Bread & Wine reflects the rhythms of its locale whilst observing the same respect for seasonal, indigenous ingredients and "the whole beast" as the bigger sister restaurant. Currently opening for dinner, Tuesday to Saturday, this branch very much beats its own drum with a menu structured towards a slightly less formal manner of dining, with guests actively encouraged to share dishes as they're ready from the kitchen.

As well as selling goods to take home from our bakery, wines by the bottle or the case can be bought from our lists to take home with some delivery available.

Bread & Wine has been voted Best British Restaurant by the Evening Standard and named as best value restaurant by The Observer Food Monthly.

Excellent as always - on this occasion to salve souls after a work disappointment - but if anything even better than the many celebrations we’ve had here. Gets closer and closer to the dream restaurant of my imagination each time. Perfect soundtrack of happy voices, such lovely staff who always hit the right note and who have clearly eaten the food, great wine list - all these complement the consistently excellent food that manages to offer both comfort and adventure.

I booked for 13:15. My guest and I ordered by 13:25. His first course came in 10 minutes. I waited for another 35 minutes until 14:09 for mine! Just not good enough. No apology. I also don’t buy the concept of the food comes when it’s ready. How is it that ever other restaurant in london seems to be able to organise their kitchen so guest actually get to eat together and you can’t. Your menu is not complicated in any way. Very good food but badly run kitchen. Get more staff at these prices please.

It's just an exceptional place for incredibly well pitched food dishes. Everything, which changes daily depending on availability was spot on. Octopus, Gloucester Old Spot and Broccoli were perfect. As always the wine list and service were exquisite. It's not big food, it's not comforting. But it is incredible, it's real and it's true and that's the best accolade from me.
