Awesome experience. We loved the food and sitting outside with the Christmas lights was fabulous.

Great food and ambiance. We sat outside on the patio overlooking the river. A beautiful setting with the Christmas lights on the trees. We asked to have the heat lamps turned on which made the temp (8:30pm reservation) perfect. Our only negative was a waiter that seemed to be absent for long stretches. At one point we had to go up to the bar to get one of our drinks because it didn’t arrive after 10 minutes and there was no waiter to be seen on the patio.

My wife started with a Caesar salad that was put together with limp romaine and a dressing that was too tart and sour. I had the scallops that for some odd reasons were chopped up into small pieces and served on 3 plastic oyster shells swimming in a sauce. Never had anything as strange tried with scallops…someone trying to experiment and ruined what might have been good scallops. We shared an order of 4 Parker House rolls that were $10 and very ordinary tasting dinner rolls with dried Parmesan cheese on top that was loose and fell off when picked up. My wife’s entree was the Mushroom Risotto with chicken added. The risotto was weg and saucy and barely tasted OK but the sliced chicken breast was over cooked, dry and missing any spices and lacked flavor. She didn’t eat much of either. My entree was a chicken dish, Chicken Ballantine I think. Waitress had recommended it. It was served warm, not hot, and wasn’t as tasty as some cafeteria entrees I’ve had in the past. We shared an order triple layer chocolate cake with a very small scoop of coffee ice cream. The cake was so dry that it crumbled into almost powdery pieces when we tried sliced our fork into it. We ate the ice cream in 2-3 small bites. We didn’t finish the cake. I had one old fashion cocktail before dinner and it was a very good drink. And, the glass of Chardonnay I had with my meal was enjoyable. And, for nearly $200 we should have had something of our meal that was very satisfying, but this was one of the most disappointing meals, from starters to dessert we’ve ever had at any restaurant. Even the seating was unpleasant. A small round table with a round cast iron base that didn’t allow adequate space for our feet. When we asked the waitress if she could move us to another table with a different base, she said she’d have to go ask someone. Someone came in about 10 minutes and it turned into an awkward and uncomfortable situation to have to explain what our issues were before we we given another table.

The wait staff was very kind, knowledgeable, and accommodating. The food and cocktails were creative and delicious. The portion size of the fish was pretty small so I would have preferred the ounces to be listed on the menu.

We were not told that the menu was limited for Christmas when we made the reservation. The portion size for $40 fish with no sides and $15 salad were ridiculously small. We left hungry.

Christmas special Cioppino was OK, certainly overpriced at $65. Service OK too, but waiter made a few mistakes and hard to find at times. They were one of few places open on Christmas Day, but I would not return based on quality and value.

I can’t imagine a lovelier Christmas dinner out. The service was excellent, the food outstanding (we had the prime rib, feast of the seven fishes, and Christmas ham) and the ambience quiet and comfortable. Highly recommend, and is definitely on my list of San Antonio restaurants to visit again.

Excellent food and staff. Went there for my Christmas birthday dinner solo and the staff made me feel so welcome. Loved it!
