Opened in June 1922, The Tam O'Shanter boasts a rich, storied history and warm, inviting atmosphere. We’re proud to be in our 10th decade of continuous service. We originally considered it a quiet pastoral road stop, since Los Feliz Boulevard was just an unpaved country lane traversed by rabbits and rabbit hunters, in that order.
Everything changed when Walt Disney and his animators, set designers, and crews began trekking out between takes for a bite and a refreshment. So often, in fact, that the Tam was once dubbed “The Studio Commissary.”
Join us and see why the Tam is said to have been Walt’s favorite restaurant!

As a family-run establishment, we’re committed to keeping our community safe. We always practice strong hygiene protocols and rigorously adhere to all CDC food safety standards.

Going to Tam O'Shanter for Christmas Eve has been something my husband and I have been doing for over 15yrs. We love coming to Tam for the Christmas decor and my favorite the carolers. This year was different. As we walked in, we were greeted by several ladies at the front desk. Yes we were greeted by them, but they were not in a jolly mood in any way, shape or form. I know working on Christmas Eve is not what folks want to be doing but the attitudes were not a great way to start our evening. Sadly, once seated the carolers had just left the room we were in. They never returned till we had finished paying our bill and were on our way out. 1.75hrs and no carolers in our room. The service was lacking, but our poor waiter had several larger parties to deal with. Our bus boy pretty much took care of us. I know it can't be a wonderful experience all the time but this holiday was pretty hard for us and we were hoping to have a great evening.

Everything wonderful except that horseradish was forgotten with the roast prime rib Lawry's dinner -waitress or server responsible, don't know, had to ask another server to bring some. Otherwise great great food, service, decor, Xmas ambience, charming carolers. A fine Xmas tradition.

We had patio seating on a drizzly day but we were warm and cozy. Despite some blast of sound from street traffic it may have been quieter than inside.

This has become our favorite place to celebrate the holiday season with great food, ambiance, and carolers. We were seated and greeted promptly by friendly staff. The prime rib, shepherd pie, and desserts ( trifle and creme brulee)did not disappoint. The only sad part was that there was no sticky toffee pudding 😩. We plan on returning next Xmas. Thanks!

As someone who has come every holiday season for the last 40 years, this time was a let down. Toad in the Hole isn’t what it used to be, and the menu continues to get smaller and smaller. No soufflés, but they didn’t have them last time either. The carolers are always great but I am not sure I will repeat this with my kids (which makes me sad because I always loved it.)
    Tam O'ShanterResponded today
Kira, we truly value your long-standing support and are concerned to hear that your recent visit did not meet expectations. We appreciate your feedback regarding the menu options and will convey this to our team for consideration. Our carolers aim to provide a delightful experience, and we hope future visits can reignite the enjoyment you have cherished with us over the years. Thank you.

Carolers and ambiance are great, food has gone majorly downhill. Almost inedible.
    Tam O'ShanterResponded today
Veronica, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. While we're glad you enjoyed the carolers and ambiance, it's concerning to hear about your disappointment with the food. Guest satisfaction is crucial to us, so we value your feedback. Thank you.

Look, I love this place to my core. Love, love, love it. But today was so bad I don't even know where to begin. There were at least 10 things wrong 1. the appetizers came out after the entrees 2. three of the exact same salads came out with wildly different proportions of lettuce and two had no tomatoes though we didn't ask them to hold the tomatoes 3. the duck wings were dry and hard as rocks 4. the corn beef sandwich had a couple of thin slices of meat. do not compare it to a NY deli's corn beef 5. sides came out 20 minutes after the entree arrived 6. the placement of the food was a joke. three people ordered burgers and they all got someone else's burger (done-ness, bacon). 7. had to ask for ice for the iced tea 4 times over 20 minutes 8. the fish and chips must have had the chef kill a goldfish. there were plenty of fries but three puny pieces of fish. think half a fish stick 9. no avocado with the burger - avacado was ordered. they finally brought it out after the burger was eaten 10. food was warm at best - except for the soup - that was nice and hot. Nothing tasted terrible, except for the duck wings. But only two people of 11 thought the meal was really good. Where usually, we all love what we get here. In all fairness, the waiter was sweet and trying his best, AND they said there was a computer program malfunction. But my take is, based on the number of people bringing food to our table in street clothes - is that some of the chefs and wait staff did not show up today. Never been here before for lunch and will probably never come again for lunch (not during the holidays anyway). Will be back for dinner sometime in the new year and I hope they worked out the kinks by then. This restaurant is a treasure and I'll always give it another chance. But embarrassing with a bunch of family out from the east coast - and I had boasted about this restaurant for so long.
