Located within Denver’s historic Tramway Building, originally opened in 1911, The Nickel pays homage to the space that was once used to collect fare from customers riding its resident streetcars: a nickel. Just as the building in which The Nickel is housed has a storied past, the dishes found on the menu at The Nickel all have a story. We proudly serve menus that incorporate the highest quality ingredients from farmers, ranchers, distillers and craft producers, and is comprised of dishes that are easily recognizable and feel simple, but eat complex.

Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
The Nickel offers a charming atmosphere, "first-rate fare," and "first-class service." Guests rave about "amazing" servers and the "incredible" burger. While some found the menu "limited," the ambiance is "warm" and ideal for pre-theater dining. Note that recent construction has affected service and seating, but the staff remains attentive.

Lovely restaurant but we had very slow service. Waited 15 minutes for coffee and over half hour for breakfast. Staff was cordial but needs some organization no Sunday morning.

Food was great. Service was really slow, plus no coffee refill and we had to flag down Manager for water refill.

Moderate menu options. Food was okay, but not spectacular. The bar and interior design are stellar!

Overall good experience, Nickel and Beet salads were good, Nickel burger and fries were good, Scarlet Smash cocktail was really good, brownie/ice cream dessert was ok but a little bitter. The Mushroom Risotto was terrible…extremely overcooked, mushy like oatmeal and with very little flavor. It was inedible and I sent it back. The restaurant did comp us for it though. I need to try this restaurant again before I would recommend it to anyone. There are plenty of better restaurants DT!

Disappointing brunch. They are no longer catering to return customers having a pre theatre meal. It’s just a hotel restaurant now. Won’t be returning.

Amazing experience celebrating Valentines evening. First rate fare and first class service. Our server, Austin, went out of his way to ensure that our dining experience was amazing and memorable. Can’t afford to eat here every night, but definitely the ideal spot to celebrate that special occasion.

We love the ambiance of this hotel and restaurant but the drinks and food are overpriced for what you get. While tasty, the burger was undercooked and the chicken very salty. The server was top notch which we appreciated......and we loved the guitar player.
The NickelResponded on February 17, 2025
Thank you for your feedback! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the ambiance, service, and live music—it truly means a lot to us. We appreciate your honest input on the food and pricing. Your comments about the burger and chicken will be shared with our kitchen team to ensure we maintain the highest quality and consistency. We always strive to provide an exceptional dining experience, and we hope to welcome you back soon for an even better visit!

Drafty table, weak drinks, slow drink delivery, appearance of wait staff not in keeping with high end restaurant. Saw an employee in the food prep area sneeze with no attempt to stifle. Food was good not great. Only saving grace was a very capable, friendly waitress. Don't think we will be back or recommend.
The NickelResponded on February 10, 2025
Dear Berta, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I sincerely apologize that your experience did not meet the high standards we strive for. It’s disappointing to hear about the service and comfort issues, as well as concerns about staff appearance and food safety. These are all areas we take very seriously, and I will be addressing them immediately with our team. On a positive note, I’m glad to hear that your waitress provided excellent service. I will be sure to recognize her efforts. While I regret that we fell short in other areas, I truly appreciate your honesty—it helps us improve. Best, The Nickel Management Team

We arrived early before a show. We were seated immediately to a very cozy table. We had been there about a year ago and the restaurant was not nearly as inviting. They since have rearranged the space and it was very comfortable. When we got there it was quiet but by the time we were almost finished a very large party arrived and were pretty noisy, they were seated very near us. The food and service was great, everything fresh and delicious, I had the beet salad with chicken and my husband had the chicken confit, both delicious. We would likely return. It is a very convenient location for before theater dinners.

We're so glad you enjoyed the fresh, delicious food and the inviting atmosphere. It’s great to hear that our space feels more comfortable now. We’d love to see you back before your next theater, and hopefully even sooner. Thank you so much for your thoughtful review!
