Booked here for Sunday lunch after hearing about it numerous times but we were left quite disappointed.
The starter was overpowered with black garlic, the gravy was so rich it ruined every other element (especially as it was pre-poured on), and the plate of vegetables/potatoes was soggy. I know everyone raves about the confit potatoes, and to be fair they were excellent, but they were additional £8 when the standard roast potatoes left much to be desired (in fact, the quality was similar to what I’d expect from an average pub).
It’s also not advertised on the Sunday lunch menu that you can opt for 2 courses, rather than the 3 stated, and if I’d realised that then I wouldn’t have ordered a starter.
Finally, we were seated on a table by the bar which had a constant stream of people going to the toilet and the bar staff consistently left the back door open while throwing bottles in the bin outside, leaving us directly in front of the cold breeze with the sound of smashing glass to enjoy our meal.
The bill was £160+ for 2 starters, 2 roasts, 1 confit potatoes, 1 dessert and a half bottle of wine, with 13.5% service charge. I don’t think our experience lived up to this amount and we left feeling quite deflated.
