Located in the Old Engine House on the edge of York's Museum Gardens in a riverside setting close to the historic Lendal Bridge, The Star Inn The City has an enviable position, which we aim to match with the best produce God's Own Country has to offer and genuine Yorkshire hospitality for the 'whole package'.

We offer an all day menu which can be enjoyed for both lunch and dinner, as well as serving up breakfast Friday to Sunday, and on Sunday's we serve up our famous Sunday roasts between 12-4pm.

We pride ourselves on being a a food-led celebration destination, with guests being able to enjoy view of the River Ouse from our Garden Room or outside on our riverside terrace. For more intimate occasions we also offer two exclusive Private Dining rooms for celebrations such as graduations, weddings and birthdays.

The food was excellent, the staff exceptional, and despite our table being amongst several other full tables the noise was minimal. The view of the river was lovely. All in all an exceptional lunch very reasonably priced. Well done to all the staff!

We've eaten here often and the food is always very delicious and very well presented. There are very good options for vegetarians and vegans like me. There is always a busy but not crowded atmosphere. The staff are all professional and friendly. The seating is comfortable especially the tables with 'banquettes'.

Food okay service terrible we were greeted abruptly by the lady when we arrived & my husband asked for some sauce with his meal arrived when he had finished always had good service before but tonight was terrible will not be rushing back

Service was very good , the leek and potato gratin was watery , the cost was taken of the bill, the haggis Bon Bon and sauce was not what was expected a trip north of the border may be needed to check out the real Bon Bon’s

Love this place, dined as a group of friends in January. Lovely staff, we were taken care of in a warm and efficient way. Food was delightful- looking forward to the next new menu.
