The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.
Enjoy our Famous Mrs. Herring's Chicken Pot Pie and other well known favorites on the menu.

Lex was an amazing waiter. He did an amazing job staying on top of things and keeping drinks and food in time. Hands down the best service experience we’ve had at the walnut room in over a decade of going there.

The Walnut Room in Chicago is truly a gem, offering not just a delightful dining experience but also a slice of history. What truly made our visit memorable was our server Daniel. His knowledge of the menu was impressive and his recommendations were spot on. He was friendly and genuinely interested in our family having a great time. The food was outstanding and very fresh. Don’t skip this on your list of must do’s of holiday festivities!

Five stars all around. My waitress Genevieve was excellent! I ordered the Walnut Room Old Fashioned and the Chicken Pot Pie. Everything was great and I thought it was an excellent value for the price. I was seated at a table with a great view of the tree. I am spending this Christmas alone in the city and I’ve always wanted to visit the Walnut Room. This dinner was everything I wanted it to be!

Love the experience dining here. The Christmas tree is absolutely beautiful. The mushroom ravioli was incredible. Wish they would serve bread with salad, pasta and soup. No bread to be had. Famous Lezza chocolate cake was fine but overrated. Should have ordered the Yule log dessert. Overall I would recommend the holiday experience dining here.

Our waiter Daniel went above and beyond. Walnut Room has gotten it right for Xmas for those lucky enough to get reservations. We have been going for decades and there have been years when the food was cold and lackluster and the service was comparable. This year Daniel was friendly-went above and beyond- was attentive-kind and made sure we were well taken care of. The food was delicious. What traditions are supposed to feel like-special.
