The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.

    A lovely, festive vibe surrounds the room. We were excited to celebrate Christmas Eve beneath the grand tree for the 15th time!

    This is more of a review for people who go to the Christmas brunch. The brunch buffet was over before our 11:30 reservation which is odd. We ordered from a limited menu and it was good but you’re really paying for the experience. The tree is huge and it’s always beautiful. They may have needed more waitstaff as the service was slow but the manager was circling around keeping an eye on everything. They usually sell out on the first day that reservations are available so plan to order them that day. It’s a Chicago tradition and overall it’s a nice family experience. The buffets we’ve had in the past were delicious with a wide variety of foods.

    First time at the walnut room and we loved it all. The food was fabulous, meatloaf had soooo many flavors, wild mushrooms ravioli was chef kiss and the petite walnut room salad was dressed perfectly. We also had the Franco mint chocolate cheesecake and omg it was one of the best cheesecakes we have ever had. Christmas Eve Eve at the Walnut Room is a must.
