About this restaurant

  • Neighborhood gem
  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
Located in downtown Old Worthington, The Whitney House serves made from scratch, refined yet rustic, American comfort food. We utilize fresh and local ingredients and constantly look for new and innovative ways to serve our community.

The Whitney House pays homage to the homes and kitchens in our past that welcomed all, treated everyone like family and offered drinks and food made with love.

We opened the Whitney House because we love our mothers. Our menu is based on the glory days of Sunday dinners when the entire family would pile into the dining room (and the living room if we ran out of chairs) to sit, catch up and enjoy a delicious meal together.

We want for you to feel at home when you stop by the Whitney House. We are looking forward to serving you!

We offer Happy Hour Tuesday-Friday 4-6pm in our Tavern

Our patio is open and is sat on a first come, first serve basis and weather permitting.

This is one of my son’s favorite hometown restaurants and we visit every time he is in town. Tonight it did not disappoint. The food was superb and Alexandra provided fantastic service. Everything was delicious but I highly recommend appetizers of pirogies and the Gorgonzola sauce fries. The berry compote dessert was unique and perfect ending to a wonderful meal.

Had to wait 30 minutes beyond our reservation time and also had to ask the waitress multiple times for something. Other than that, the food was good.

Small, intimate room. Server was ok, not really warm or pleasant. Food was on the pricey side ($6 for 2 slices of bacon), but was just ok. Everything tasted fine, but was barely warm and average.

Overall really good. Service was excellent. Both burgers were both great as well as the French toast. The corn bread and goat cheese appetizers are so tasty.

We have been to WH many many times. It’s always good and we always have great service. We also always make reservations as we did for tonight. Unfortunately, we weren’t seated until 30 mins past our time. Not disastrous but certainly has never happed before. For me, the kicker was absolutely no apology for the delay nor Ann updates along the way to our wait. Nog all bad as our waiter was great and the food is always good.

Restaurant was closed for maintenance based on a sign they hung from the door and had nothing on website or voicemail. Wasted time going there and then had to find somewhere else to go. Is it so hard to communicate online? We weren’t the only ones disappointed. Won’t go back.

I’ve been to the Whitney House in the past and had a great experience, but today was disappointing because of the food, unfortunately. I ordered the brioche French toast and it came out cold. The waiter took it back and brought me a new one, but that was lukewarm at best. Another at the table had the same issue. It was also overwhelmingly sweet. Another friend ordered the short rib hash and the eggs came out very under cooked, with the white parts runny. I love the Whitney House, but today was a disappointing experience.
