About this restaurant

  • Good for business meals
  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
Chef Tyler Florence brings his passion for high quality and style to San Francisco with his new flagship restaurant, Wayfare Tavern. A classic San Francisco Tavern featuring authentic American dishes inspired by local cuisine at the turn of the 20th century, the menu ranges from classic comforts to rustic delicacies. The beverage menu features locally-sourced wines including a selection of Florence's own label, quality draft beers and organic root beer as well as classic Victorian-era cocktails.

All three floors of the restaurant have been designed keeping historical accuracy in mind making Wayfare Tavern reminiscent of a Victorian parlor and an Edwardian men's club, where anything goes from black-tie to blue jeans. Pull up a stool to the Chef's Counter at the open kitchen and look on as Chef prepares your lunch or head to the Library and Billiard Room for a game of pool. Wayfare Tavern is a truly unparalleled dining experience translated from a century ago. Photo: John Lee.

Service was great, except for our server who was not very personable and sort of took away from a great Tyler experience!

Dined for lunch and were lucky to visit before they moved to their new location. Great friendly service, rustic old school tavern vibe (at least in this location). Fried Chicken was excellent, moist and a perfect ratio of breading . Tavern burger was very moist and flavorful. Side of cauliflower was excellent.

The non-alcoholic cocktails are not very interesting and totally overpriced. Basically 6 ounces of water, some ice cubes, simple syrup and a cucumber essence is $12 - come on - you can do better than that! The fried chicken is great - and has been for many years - it's a definite staple here. Unfortunately, I didn't venture out from a side order of french fries - definitely would not recommend these - no distinctive taste, seemingly Heinz Ketchup (no taste), and small (but that doesn't really matter). A San Francisco standard but wow - this place needs to up their game!

A favorite place for lunch mid afternoon. Not a lot of restaurants open mid afternoon with a full menu which makes this a great option. Excellent fried chicken and the burger is great. Staff is excellent!

Beautiful restaurant located steps away from the iconic Transamerica Pyramid with delicious food and attentive service. We were a party of 3 and everyone ended up ordering some variation of the Tavern Burger ($25) whether it was adding on an egg or some avocado for an additional $2. Everything was delicious from the burger to the french fries and the complimentary popovers (we ended up getting seconds). Overall, the servers were friendly, the food was good, and the ambiance inside of the restaurant was pretty cool. Lots of cool decorations inside as well. They had a nice dark and rustic setting that was real cozy too.
