** Wild Ginger - Downtown

The food at Wild Ginger spans the Pacific Rim from China to Indonesia. We pride ourselves on offering traditional dishes from these distinctive regions and insist on house-made ingredients. Chefs make spicy chili sambals, fresh coconut milk, delicate egg noodles, and our pungent oyster sauce all from scratch. To achieve the sublime flavors of the East, there is no substitute for the time-honored customs of these rich and ancient cultures.

The management overbooked the restaurant, so we didn't get seated until 7:00 even though I made a 6:45 reservation, which I confirmed earlier that day, and checked in at 6:35. We had tickets to an event at 8:00, and were told that the easiest way to get out of there on time was to just order appetizers and starters, which is not why There were lots of people waiting to be seated, and no real area for all of us to be, so the front desk area was so crowded that you couldn't get to the desk to ask questions, and 3 chairs set up for what at one point was like 30 people in the check-in area. Once we were seated, nobody came to our table with water or to check in on us. Finally a waiter took our order, after making clear to us that this table was not in his section and he was doing his fellow wait staff a favor by helping us. He promised he would put in our full order all at once and get us out of there in time for our show, and then when our first dish came out we were still waiting for tuna tartare. When the server went back to the kitchen (which we could see from our table) to "check" on it, it was obvious that that order had never been put in. All in all, my worst experience at Wild Ginger, and chaotic enough that I will be looking for other restaurants close to Benaroya Hall. When I eat out, the overall matters, and this was not great.

As usual Wild Ginger’s meals were quite good with nice tastes. You know you aren’t going for some kind of uber authentic experience. I think it was that 30 years ago but since the menu rarely changes they have it down well. What annoyed me last night was that I and many other people showed up on time for reservations before the Symphony and they totally blew it. We were seated 15 minutes late and it was a bit tight making it to our concert on time. This wasn’t an unforeseen event - you could know it was coming for months. Which points to bad planning.

I have been a fan of Wild Ginger since its inception. Unfortunately they had an “off” evening last night and we ended up leaving without dining there. We arrived at 6:25 for our 6:30 reservation, only to wait 25+ minutes without any status updates. We sat and watched customers arrive after we did, and get seated, still without any acknowledgment or reassurance. I rarely bail on a reservation, especially at one of my favorite dining establishments in Seattle, but brokenheartedly we had to leave for greener pastures! We will be back, because this was definitely a “one-off” for such a fine place. We ended up at Davids at Benaroya Hall and definitely a 2-thumbs up there, they were so kind! Sorry you had a rough go, Wild Ginger.

Our group of three went to dinner before the symphony. One of us is vegan. The other two are pescatarian. Our waiter recommended great choices.

Great food but average service - long wait for our first cocktail, water refill, and additional food. Server was nice but not very attentive.

We had not been to Wild Ginger, which we used to like very much, since the early 2000s. This return was disappointing with bland and unimaginative seasoning, overcooked shrimp, and high prices. None of the three dishes we tried rose above the "just OK" level. For a check total of $102 plus tip, the experience as a whole was not OK. Sad to say, we won't be back.

We had an early dinner here on NYE, and it was just what we needed before a show at the Paramount. We didn’t want to have any leftovers to cart around, so the family style sharing worked perfectly. The dishes came out hot and delicious, one after another, and our server was truly excellent.
